In the aftermath of a mass shooting on Sunday, the capital city is grieving and looking for ways to help. Here are some resources and organizations that are offering support or seeking community donations.
We Are Blood
The local blood bank has asked for donors who are O positive and O negative to give blood to help victims who were injured during the shooting. Sign up for an appointment here.
Night Owl Therapy
This local nonprofit for nightlife industry workers, artists, and entertainers is offering free therapy to clients who were affected by the shooting at no additional cost. Get more information here.
Bathe Austin
To help the community heal during this difficult moment, Bathe Austin is offering a free Silent Hour on March 3 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The East Austin space will provide complimentary access to its soaking garden on Tuesday morning. The University of Texas at Austin has several resources for its students, including a crisis line at 512-471-2255 and student outreach and support at 512-471-5017.
Donate to a Victim’s GoFundMe
A GoFundMe has been set up to support the family of Ryder Harrington, one of the victims in this weekend’s mass shooting. “Ryder was a beloved son, brother, and friend whose kindness and presence touched countless lives,” the page notes. “All donations will go directly to the Harrington family for family support.” Donate here.
SIMS Foundation
This local nonprofit is offering mental health support for members of the music community. Learn more here.
Marfa Lights
On Friday, March 6, from 4 p.m. to close, downtown bar Marfa Lights is donating 100% of total sales to families of the victims of the mass shooting. The bar is located at 718 W. Sixth St.
JABS
On Saturday, March 7, JABS will donate all proceeds to Night Owl Therapy (see above).
